CONTRACTOR QUESTIONS
What types of building materials are accepted in the bins?
Anything
can go in the 7, 15, 20 and 30 yard units with the exception
of liquid and hazardous waste materials.
What materials can NOT
be collected in the bins?
Concrete needs to be collected in a separate bin. No liquids are allowed: paints, gasoline, oils, etc.
How far in advance do I have to schedule?
We provide service within 24 hours.
How can I pay?
We accept cash, check, debit and credit card.

Are your facilities open to the public?
Yes,
we are open to the public.
7:00 to 3:30 Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri.
7:00 to 6:00 Wed.
7:00 to Noon Sat.
What if my garbage wasn't picked
up by the city?
Can I drop it off at Door County Waste and Recycling?
You
can bring it here for a nominal fee.
What can I put in the garbage?
Everything
is considered garbage other than hazardous waste items (anything
liquid, paints, needles, hospital wastes, etc.).
Liquid paint can be brought here if you prepare it correctly.
You must put a drying agent in the paint can (cheap kitty
litter), stir well, leave the lid off, and let it dry for
a couple of weeks. Once hardened, replace the lid and bring
it with your garbage.
What kinds of large things
do you pick-up?
We
can deliver a dumpster for you to dispose of all your items.

Do you pick up yard materials
and when do you pick it up?
We
can deliver a dumpster for you to dispose of all your items,
including yard materials.
However, we are not affiliated with the city of Sturgeon
Bay and its collection of waste and yard materials. If you
live in the city, you would have to call them for these
answers. For other county residents, see if your local town
has some sort of recycling.
Do you collect garbage on holidays?
We
do not pick up garbage on the major holidays. You can call
us at 920-746-7434 for our holiday hours.
Do you accept car seats?
Yes, they are considered garbage.
What is a transfer station?
A
transfer station is a facility where you take your garbage.
It is compacted and then loaded into a semi for transport
to a landfill.
How can I pay?
At
Door County Waste and Recycling, you pay at the window of
the mobile trailer located down below the chute area.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
What do I do with car parts?
Car
parts that are metal are recyclable for free. Anything else
is garbage.
What do I do with batteries?
Batteries
are recyclable for free.
How do I dispose of a syringe?
Call
Brown County Hazardous waste at 920-492-4950.
What do I do with asbestos?
Call the Kewaunee Landfill at 920-388-2223.

Can I set up a recycling pick-up schedule?
We offer 2, 4, 6 or 8 yd frontload containers that would sit in your yard that we would pick up on a regular basis.
What types of shingles to you accept?
We accept sorted
and mixed roofing materials including residential (Non-Asbestos) asphalt roofing
shingles that are segregated, non-hazardous and uncontaminated materials. Asphalt
roofing shingles may include nails and tar paper backing only. Customers may include
small amounts of non-hazardous paper, plastic, metal and wood mixed with the recyclable
shingle materials. No Cedar Shake Wood or Residential trash
is allowed in either Sorted or Mixed Roofing loads. Some fees may apply.
WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THESE ITEMS WITH YOUR SHINGLE LOAD: hazardous waste,
PCB waste, special waste, industrial processed wasted, asbestos (friable and non-friable)
materials, yard waste, construction and demolition waste (brick, block, cedar
shake wood), municipal waste or commercial waste in your shingle load. Other examples
of UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS include: drummed waste, barrels, wasted oil, petroleum
contaminated soil, asbestos siding, asbestos tile, asbestos roofing materials
(flashing, shingles, mastic sealer), commercial roofing material, lead acid batteries,
tires, propane tanks, cylinders, industrial processed wasted from factories, contaminated
soil from brownfield cleanups and containers containing paint or solvents.
What is e-waste?
E-waste consists of many items some of which can be recycled.
There are nominal fee's for these items. Call 746-7434 for
pricing. E-waste includes (but is not limited to): televisions,
refrigerators, freezers, computers, monitors, fluorescent
bulbs, ballasts, microwaves, tires, propane tanks, small
& large electronics, stereo's etc. (Televisions, computers,
monitors, keyboards, and printers can be hazardous if not
disposed of correctly.)
Can I drop off recyclables during off hours?
No, however we are open from 7:00 to 3:30 Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. 7:00 to 6:00 Wed. and Saturday from 7:00 to Noon.
Are batteries recyclable?
Yes, batteries are free to recycle.
